SECTION IV BOYS SWIMMING: OWEGO BETTERS SEED TIMES AT CLASS B PRELIMS (21 PHOTOS) (2019-02-13)

OWEGO - What the Owego boys swimmers lack in depth they make up for in desire. The Indians bettered their seed times in every event at the Section IV Class B Swimming & Diving Preliminaries here Wednesday.

Brandon Lavo led the charge, qualifying second in the 500-yard free for Saturday's "A" final. He posted a time of 5:19.49, besting his seed time by more than 13 seconds.

The junior standout qualified for the "A" final in the 200 free, clocking a 1:55.25, 1.25 seconds faster than his seed time.

The Indians also blew away their seed time by double digits - more than 19 seconds - in the 400 free relay. Noah Bingley, Lavo, Joey Criscitello and Adam Gault registered a fifth-place time of 3:46.3.

Bangles and Gault would better their seed times by more than six seconds each in the 200 free and 200 individual medley, respectively. Bangles posted a 2:00.59 and Gault a 2:24.16. Both swimmers placed 10th and will advance to the "B" finals.

Gault was also ninth in the 100 breast, his time of 1:11.37 was good for ninth and a spot in the "B" final. He topped his seed time by 5.25 seconds.

Bingley, Criscitello, Gault and Lavo bettered their seed time by nearly five seconds en route to a fourth-place showing in the 200 free relay, clocking 1:38.63.

Bingley qualified for the "B" final in the 100 free, placing ninth with a time of 54.42 seconds. He nipped his seed time by 0.91 seconds.

Criscitello placed 13th in the 100 butterfly (1:08.56), besting his seed time by 2.25 seconds, and finished 15th in the 50 free (26.45), improving on his seed time by a little over one second. Both efforts qualified him for the "B" final.

James Morton didn't qualify for the next round, but improved on both his seed times. He was 20th in the 100 back (1:17.82) and 24th in the 100 free (1:03.84). His freestyle time was more than 4 1/2 seconds faster than his seed time and his backstroke time was almost three seconds better than his seed time.
