SECTION IV INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: OWEGO COLLECTS 4 FIRSTS AT 607 INVITATIONAL (2018-12-02)

CORTLAND - Owego opened the winter season with four first-place finishes at the 607 Invitational at SUNY Cortland Saturday evening.

Cameron Szabo, Eaan Hackett and Nate Bowers all won boys distance running events while Brooke Hathaway won the girls race walk.

BOYS
Szabo captured the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:45.6. Teammate James McDonald placed fourth in 3:05.9.

Hackett was the winner in the 1600, posting a time of 5:01.64 to best teammate Lewis Race, who placed second with a 5:02.69

Bowers won the 3200, clocking 10:06.7. The Indians' Gavin Watkins took fourth in 10:46.5.

Other top-10 place-winners for Owego were Augustus Cantella, seventh in the 55 dash (7.32), and Austin Tompkins, 10th in the 55 hurdles (11.86).

The Indians had two relay teams place in the top six. Luke Maslin, Watkins, Ryan Johnson and Derek Sarrge took fourth in the 4x200 relay (1:50.04), and the 1600 sprint relay of Brandon Worzel, Nick Maslin, Tyler Phelps and Dylan Pitcher was sixth with a time of 4:10.49.

GIRLS
Hathaway won the 1500 race walk with a time of 10:12.32 and teammate Kiara Smith finished second in 10:12.47.

Mikayla Worzel heaved the shot put 32 feet even, good for second-place.

Naydia Birch was fifth in the high jump at 3-8 and eighth in the 1000 (4:22.35), Danielle Knapp took sixth in the 3000 (13:24.05) and 10th in the 600 (2:24), Lily Harbol placed seventh in the 1000 (4:19.26), Alyssa Stephens was seventh in the 1500 (6:19.24) and Lilly Bouton was 10th in the 55 hurdles (11.81).

The 1600 sprint relay of Stephens, Hathaway, Taylor Pierce and Ella Reig placed eighth (5:45.16), and the 4x200 relay of Kaitlyn Ulrich, Bouton, Avery Townsand and Hailey McHugh was 10th (2:23.48).

Owego competes in the Ithaca Bombers Invitational at Ithaca College Saturday.
