(CORRECTED) NEW YORK STATE VOLLEYBALL: CANDOR DUO RECEIVES ALL-STATE HONORS (2012-12-07)

Tioga County Sports Report
CANDOR - A pair of Candor standouts have received New York Volleyball Coaches Association all-state volleyball honors.

Sophomore Braelyn Hornick has been selected to the Class D third team and junior Jennah Kareem has been named to the Class D fourth team.

Hornick, a setter, was named the IAC South Small School division MVP  and a first-team all-star. She was also named WBNG Athlete of the Week.

She posted 66 service aces, 238 service points, had a 92.7 serving percentage, 358 assists (5.7 assists per set), 78 kills (1.2 kills per set), 38.6 kill percentage and .233 hitting percentage.

"I think anyone who saw the team play noticed what an impact Braelyn had on the team's ability to play well," said Candor head coach Pam Quinlan. "She is a true leader with a true passion for the sport. Braelyn embraced her role on the team, both as the setter and as the team captain."

A middle hitter, Kareem, was chosen an IAC South Small School first-team all-star and received an ESPN1160 Athlete of the Week honor.

She recorded 160 kills (2.5 kills per set), a 37.1 kill percentage, .169 hitting percentage, and 95 digs (1.2 digs per set).

"Another impact player, Jennah's presence was immediately known when she made her first contact on the ball," Quinlan said. "A strong player, both physically and mentally, Jennah made some great athletic plays and worked to mix it up when she was hitting. She also made significant contributions defensively."
