IAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: CANDOR RALLIES TO IMPROVE TO 4-0 (2018-12-10)

CANDOR - Candor's unblemished record was in jeopardy Friday evening as the Indians trailed Newark Valley, 32-20, at halftime. Then they started to click - riding six 3-pointers and 13 free throws to a 59-47 win over the Cardinals.

After outscoring NV, 18-5, to take a one-point edge in the third quarter, the Indians pumped out 21 in the fourth to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Joey Marsh scored all 11 of his points in the third quarter, including three treys, to ignite the team's second-half run.

Joel Dougherty, who led all scorers with 25 points, put up 14 in the final period while going 7-for-8 at the line.

Dougherty also contributed 11 rebounds, six steals and two assists. Bryce Mills had three steals and six assists.  

Nash Whitmore hit a big 3-point shot in the fourth quarter to push the Candor lead to eight points. He finished with 11 points and six rebounds.

In his first JV start, 8th-grader Cooper Thayer had five points, five rebounds and two steals. He also went 4-for-4 at the stripe.

The Cardinals got off to a 13-7 lead behind Raidyn Ford's 7-point first quarter in which he nailed two threes, then increased their lead to 12 at the half as Jacob Armstrong scored seven second-quarter points.

Both players finished the game with 15 points. Brenton Rosenberg added eight points and  Conner Spoonhower had six more.

Candor visits Newfield Tuesday and NV heads to Notre Dame.
