YOUTH BASEBALL: OWEGO TEENER 16U CAPTURES TRI COUNTY TITLE, FINISHES UNBEATEN (2023-07-31)

ENDICOTT — Owego Teener 16U broke a 2-2 tie with a 4-run fifth inning to win the Tri County Teener League 16U championship game, 8-3 over Vestal Anderson at Sertoma Field Sunday.

Will Craparo singled and moved to second on an error to start the bottom of the fifth and Brandon Eynon followed with a base hit. Both runners would score on Ryan Rhodes’ triple to center field.

Rhodes would score on a wild pitch, then Devan Card, Josh Karp, Cayden Smith and Scott Wager drew walks with Card scoring to make it 6-2.

Vestal got a run back in the sixth on a single and a trio of walks, but Owego tallied twice in the home half of the inning.

Craparo walked, stole second and scored Rhodes’ one-out single, Jerod Meddaugh singled, and Rhodes stole third and home.

Vestal scored the game’s first run in the third on a walk and an error, and made it 2-0 on a double.

Owego tied things up in the bottom of the stanza with a Josh Benjamin walk, singles by Eynon and Rhodes, and a sacrifice fly by Meddaugh. Benjamin scored on a passed ball and Eynon scored on Meddaugh’s sac fly.

Rhodes, Craparo and Karp combined to check Vestal on two hits and six walks. Rhodes picked up the win, striking out nine while surrendering two unearned runs on one hit and three walks over 4 ⅔ innings.

At the plate, Rhodes went 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Craparo was 2-for-3 with two runs and Eynon went 2-for-4 with two runs. Meddaugh was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Card and Benjamin scored one run each, and Wager drove in a run.

Owego finished the season with a 14-0 record.
