NEWARK VALLEY’S RUNDELL, S-VE’S CARLUCCI WIN KNIGHTS TITLES (2024-01-31)

TIOGA CENTER — Five youths from around the area were crowned champs here recently at the annual Tioga County Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championships, held in memory of longtime youth coach Daniel Manwaring.

Five boys and girls — ages 9 to 13 — achieved Council level champion status at the 9th Annual Knights of Columbus/Dan Manwaring Memorial held at Tioga Central High School on Jan. 21.

Spencer-Van Etten’s Landon Carlucci made all 15 free throws to the Boys age 10 title while Newark Valley’s Tyla Rundell went 13-for-15 to take the Girls age 11 division.

The winners are:
• Boys, age 10: Landon Carlucci — S-VE, 15 of 15;
• Girls, age 12: Mila Santiago — Towanda, 9 of 15 — 4 of 5 in tiebreaker to edge Irie Lynch;
• Girls, age 10: Kristi Hollett — Towanda, 8 of 15;
• Girls, age 14: Ali Hollett— Towanda, 11 of 15;
• Girls, age 11: Tyla Rundell — Newark Valley, 13 of 15.

Each of the winners will advance to the Chapter level at McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester on March 10, with an eye on moving to the Regional level at Bishop Ludden High School in Syracuse on March 16, and ultimately to the New York State championship at West Point in April.
