TIOGA COUNTY SPORTS REPORT: NEWARK VALLEY’S GARDNER, CANDOR’S HEIDL SELECTED ‘ATHLETES OF THE WEEK’ (2024-03-05)

TIOGA COUNTY — Newark Valley’s Cha Gardner and Candor’s Jadon Heidl have been selected the Tioga County Sports Report “Athletes of the Week” for Feb. 27 through March 3.

Female Athlete of the Week: Cha Gardner, Newark Valley
The 6-foot-3 senior ended her high school career at NV with a pair of double-doubles. She scored 13 points and grabbed 25 rebounds in a 48-38 victory over Susquehanna Valley in the Section IV Class B semifinals, then added 22 points and 11 boards in a 46-35 loss to top-seeded Chenango Forks in the championship game.

Gardner went 18-for-22 at the free throw line for the week and also tallied six blocks, five steals and four assists.

Male Athlete of the Week: Jadon Heidl, Candor
A senior, he scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers, in a 44-40 loss to Delhi in the Section IV Class C semifinals. Heidl also contributed three steals and two rebounds.
