HS BOYS BASKETBALL: CANDOR’S FOSTER, OWEGO’S LOOMIS RECEIVE BCANY AWARDS (2024-03-20)

TIOGA COUNTY — Candor’s Jakobe Foster and Owego’s Riley Loomis have garnered 2024 Basketball Coaches of New York Section IV second team awards.

Foster, a sophomore guard, played a key role in the Coyotes’ first IAC divisional championship and sectional semifinal since the mid-1980s. The IAC South Small School co-MVP, he averaged 14.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He had 17 games with double-digit scoring with a high of 24 points, made 31 3-pointers and recorded six double-doubles (scoring & rebounding).

Candor posted an 18-4 record, two losses coming to the eventual state champion, and avenged an early-season setback. The Coyotes won the IAC South Small School title, its first division title in 17 years, and was the IAC Small School runner-up. They also reached the Section IV semifinals for the first time since 2008, snapping a string of quarterfinal losses in the process.

Loomis, a senior guard, was the leading scorer for the River Hawks and led them to a return to the Section IV semifinals, this time up at the Class A level.

He averaged 15.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game as Owego compiled a 14-6 overall record despite suffering numerous graduation losses from the 2023 Class B sectional championship squad.
