THE SPORTS REPORTS: CORNING TRIO SWEEPS ALL-REGIONS BOYS BOWLING AWARDS — FIVE TIOGA COUNTY BOWLERS MAKE THE LIST (2024-03-29)

The Sports Reports
It was a big year for bowlers in the region, making it difficult when it came to selecting the Sports Reports All-Region boys’ bowling team.

Both Corning and Waverly won the state qualifiers and reached states this year, with Corning capturing the Division I state title, and Waverly finishing second in Division 2.

Corning edged Elmira at the state qualifier, after Elmira won states last year. And, the Hawks then went on to win states themselves this year. It’s the first time Section IV has won state titles in back-to-back years in Division 1.

This year’s all-region boys’ bowling Elite 11 all-star team is led by Cameron Kennedy of Corning, who is the Boys “Bowler of the Year.” He led the team with a 222.2 average this year, and helped lead the Hawks to a state title. He had the highest series of any bowler in the team competition at States, Division 1 or D2 at 1,381 (230.17 average). He bowled a 300 game at the state championships. He also had the second highest series at the STAC Championships (756) to help the Hawks win the STAC title.

The “Newcomer of the Year” is Corning’s Peyton Nelson, who averaged 215.6 on the year to help the Hawks win states, while coach Will Condon of Corning is the “Coach of the Year.” Condon helped guide the Hawks to the STAC title and the state title.
