IAC BASEBALL: SVEC SNAPS 5-GAME SKID (2024-04-22)

Tioga County Sports Report
WHITNEY POINT — The Spencer-Van Etten/Candor baseball team built a big lead early, then pulled away late to defeat Whitney Point, 15-8, in IAC action Monday.

“The kids hit the ball well,” coach Cliff Pierce said. “We did let WP back in the game during the middle innings, but finished strong.”

A Cameron Sinn single, walks to Logan Aman, Deveon Aman, and Jason Jantz, and a sacrifice by Wyatt Ross led to a 4-0 advantage in the top of the first inning.

The Golden Eagles got a run back on an error and a double in the home half of the first, but SVEC added three more in the second.

Walks to Owen Huizinga and Sinn, a double by Logan Aman and a sacrifice by Jacek Teribury made it a 7-1 ball game.

A walk and run by Cyrus Torlyla in the third, and a Sinn triple and run in the fourth aided the SVEC effort, but Whitney Point plated four runs in the third and another trio in the fourth to make a game of it.

Three singles and two errors highlighted the third inning for WP, and two doubles, two hit batters and a walk highlighted the Point’s fourth.

Clinging to a 9-8 edge, the Eagles regrouped and scored four runs in the sixth, then tacked on a pair of insurance scores in the seventh.

Teribury singled, Sinn sacrificed a run in with a bunt, Jantz singled, Chrysler singled in a run, and Levi Anderson drove in a run with a triple in the sixth.

Huizinga singled and scored, and Teribury doubled and scored in the seventh.

Zach Lang got the win and Sinn the save.

Sinn scored three runs, and had two hits and two walks. He is batting .611 with an on-base percentage of .777 with 14 stolen bases. He hasn't struck out all season.

Logan Aman, Teribury, Deveon Aman, Jantz and Huizinga contributed multiple runs to the win, each scoring twice.

SVEC hosts Trumansburg Wednesday at Candor at 4:30 p.m.
