IAC SOFTBALL: SVEC ROLLS PAST WHITNEY POINT, 16-3 (2024-04-23)

WHITNEY POINT — The Spencer-Van Etten/Candor softball team cranked out nine runs in the third inning and rolled to a five-inning, 16-3 victory over Whitney Point in IAC action Monday.

Katelyn Klym and Nicola Soper scored two runs apiece in the uprising. Klym reached base on an error and with an RBI single while Soper had two base hits.

Aubrie Kastenhuber delivered a pair of two-run doubles and scored a run. Also scoring were Raegan Sudnikovich, who had a two-run double; Jillian Teribury with an RBI single; Hannah Smith, who was hit by a pitch; and Cheylee Campbell, who drew a base on balls.

The Eagles scored their initial run after Sudnikovich’s first at-bat. She led off the game with a triple and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Phoebe Swartz.

Campbell walked and Sudnikovich smacked a double in the second, and both players scored for a 3-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles would tie the score in the bottom half of the third when Olivia Somers belted a three-run home run with two outs in the scorebook.

With a commanding 12-3 advantage in hand, SVEC scored a trio of runs in the fourth after Smith, Campbell and Sudnikovich walked, and Swartz delivered a two-run single.

Kastenhuber led off the fifth with a double and Smith scored her with a ground out.

Sudnikovich went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and four runs to pace the Eagles while Kastenhuber was 3-for-3 with three doubles and two runs; and Campbell walked four times and scored three runs.

Klym and Soper contributed two hits and two runs apiece; Smith scored twice; Teribury added a hit and a run; and Swartz and Ryleigh Bowman tacked on one hit apiece.

Kastenhuber handled the pitching duties, scattering five hits and two walks while striking out nine batters.

SVEC (5-2) heads to Elmira Heights at 4:30 p.m. today for a make-up game with Edison (5-1).
