IAC SOFTBALL: SVEC FALLS AS EDISON CONTINUES TO ROLL (2024-04-23)

ELMIRA HEIGHTS — The Edison softball team was listed at No. 11 in Class B when the state rankings were published Tuesday afternoon. A few hours later, the Spartans proved the rankings were no fluke as they defeated Spencer-Van Etten/Candor, 14-2, in five innings in IAC action.

The Eagles started out strong as Raegan Sudnikovich led off the game with a home run. One out later, Katelyn Klym walked, Nicola Soper doubled and Roni Presher scored Klym with a ground out.

Edison picked up a run in the home half of the first, then moved ahead on Carissa Cowan’s three-run homer in the second.

The Spartans pushed their lead to 7-2 in the fourth with the help of two errors and a two-run double by Emma Maggs.

The SVEC defense stumbled in the fifth as the Spartans took advantage of four errors and four hits to double their run output.

Gabby Milazzo scattered three hits and two walks, and struck out 10 batters as Edison improved to 6-1 on the season.

The three-game sweep dropped the Eagles to 5-3 on the season.

Jillian Teribury contributed a hit and a walk for SVEC, which hosts Trumansburg Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
