IAC TRACK & FIELD: S-VE SPLITS WITH NEWFIELD (2024-04-24)

SPENCER — The Spencer-Van Etten track & field teams split with Newfield in IAC action Tuesday. The girls won, 79-62, while the boys dropped a 67-64 battle.

GIRLS
The Panthers’ depth was a plus as they won eight of 17 contested events and claimed 13 of 16 possible second-place spots.

Individual winners were Madelyn Ellison in the 1500-meter run (6:02), Kendall Gentile in the 800 (2:56), Kirsten Garrison in the 3,000 (13:39), Demi Mouillesseaux in the triple jump (30-0), Olivia Swayze in the high jump (4-2), Lilie Stevens in the pole vault (7-0) and Kaylee Kastenhuber in the discus (78-1), and Garrison, Madelyn Ellison, Grace Bishop and Gentile won the 4x800 relay (13:47.8).

Placing second were Jackie Brown in the 100 hurdles (:19.6) and 400 hurdles (1:31), Madelyn Ellison in the 3,000 (13:48) and high jump (4-0), Ashley Ellison in the 400 (1:15), Garrison in the 800 (6:04), Mouillesseaux in the 200 (:28.9), Lucy Secondo in the long jump (12-2), Brooke Ryan in the pole vault (7-0), Kastenhuber in the shot put (25-7), Aubrey Catablan in the discus (72-11), Lucy and Vivienne Secondo, Kelci Wright and Mouillesseaux in the 4x100 relay (:57.7), and Katelynn Jayne, Brown, Ashley Ellison and Mouillesseaux in the 4x400 relay (5:07).

Finishing third were Ryan in the 400 (1:18) and triple jump (24-1), Garrison in the 400 hurdles (1:32), Lau in the 800 (3:23) and pole vault (6-0), and Lucy Secondo in the discus (65-11).

BOYS
S-VE won 10 of 16 events, but only earned five seconds and five thirds in the close battle.

Individual winners included Karson Kenville in the 110 hurdles (:17.0) and 400 hurdles (1:06), John Garrison in the 1600 (4:28) and 3200 (10:05), Brian Belanger in the 400 (57.6), Zachary Paucke in the 200 (:24.4) and long jump (17-7), and Donavin VanDerpoel in the shot put (33-8) and discus (99-5).

The 4x800 relay of Gabe Benjamin, Belanger, Rixford and Garrison won by nearly one minute, clocking 9:11.9.

Coming in second were Paucke in the 100 (:11.9), Garrison in the 400 (58.9), Rixford in the 800 (2:19.8), the 4x100 relay of Lincoln Jones, William Horyczun, Cooper Zufall and David Rivers (:54.4), and the 4x400 relay of Lawrence, Rixford, Belanger and Paucke (4:04).

S-VE heads to Odessa-Montour next Tuesday for a multi-team meet.
