STAC BASEBALL: OWEGO CHALKS UP 10TH VICTORY (2024-04-24)

BINGHAMTON — Owego chalked up its 10th victory of the season Wednesday, defeating Chenango Forks, 10-4, in STAC baseball action.

Conlan Taylor enjoyed a 5-for-5 performance at the plate and Ben Rollison went 3-for-5 as the River Hawks punched out 11 hits. The duo also contributed two runs and two RBI apiece. Additionally, Taylor stole three bases and Rollison swiped two.

Owego scored the game’s first five runs. Taylor singled and scored on Connor Kotski’s sacrifice fly in the first, and the River Hawks added four more runs in the second.

Evan English highlighted the inning with an RBI double, and Rollison and Taylor added RBI singles. Matt Higgins, Elijah Lewis and Zach Beyer contributed walks, and Kotski was hit by a pitch, with Beyer’s base on balls bringing in a run.

Rollison and Taylor stroked RBI singles in the fifth, Matt Higgins singled and Joseph Palladino was hit by a pitch, and Talan Schumacher and Palladino scored for a 7-3 advantage.

Forks closed the gap to 7-6 in the home half of the fifth on a three-run home run by Colten Zajdel, but Owego scored the game’s final three runs.

Beyer laid down a bunt single and scored on an error off the bat of Higgins in the sixth.

In the seventh, Palladino took one for the team a second time, moved to third on hits by Rollison and Taylor, and scored on a wild pitch. Rollison scored the final run on an English ground out.

English finished the game with a hit, run and two RBI; Beyer added a hit, run and RBI; Higgins had a hit and a run; Palladino scored twice; and Schumacher and Kotski tacked on a run and RBI, respectively.

Lewis earned the win, striking out eight while giving up five runs on eight hits and one walk in 4 ⅔ innings. Wicklund pitched the final two innings to get the save, fanning two while allowing one walk and one hit.

Owego (10-1) hosts Forks (5-7) Friday.
